NineSquared is an economics, commercial advisory and strategy consulting firm founded in 2013 with a focus on helping our clients make great decisions.

We Help Make Decisions

We work on a diverse range of projects — some very large, some quite small. But they all have one thing in common: every project is about helping someone make or influence an important decision.

Sometimes that decision is about whether to invest in something like a new dam. Sometimes it’s about selecting the best course of action given how things might change in the future. Sometimes it’s about deciding which policy options will best achieve a stated goal.

Whatever the decision, we work with clients to identify and clarify the trends and issues that might impact them, discover opportunities they can take advantage of, and ultimately give them the insights they need to make great decisions.

Why We Work

We work because we are curious about the world, enjoy problem solving and developing a genuine understanding of how and why the world works. We believe that all positive progress is the result of great decision making. We also believe that the insights and analysis provided by economic frameworks and analysis, combined with a broad range of perspectives from diverse experiences and backgrounds, provide an opportunity to help decision-makers make great decisions that move community and society forward.

How We Work

Diverse perspectives

At our heart, we are an economics consultancy. But we understand and appreciate the benefits of incorporating diverse viewpoints from different disciplines and different experiences. That’s why we also employ mathematicians, economic geographers, political scientists and accountants. We also partner with a range of different firms, including engineers, planners and agronomists, to ensure our clients have the information to make great decisions.

Small teams

We prefer small, dedicated teams, led by senior experience staff, who can work on projects from end to end and work closely with and understand our clients.

Outcome focused

We trust our staff to work to deliver quality outcomes for our clients and generally don’t keep time sheets. Performance is judged based on their ability to deliver outcomes rather than the number of hours they have spent on a task.

Real world experience

Each of our engagements is led by senior NineSquared consultant with directly relevant experience gained over many years working in senior positions in the public and private sectors. Clients should expect to see our most senior consultants working on their projects, not just selling work and overseeing junior staff.

Bespoke solutions

We don’t do cookie-cutter. We listen to our clients and understand their needs before developing tailored solutions.

Our People

Our people are the most important part of NineSquared. We employ smart people with diverse backgrounds, education and experience who share our passion for working with clients to help them make great decisions about complex issues.

While we are an economics firm, our team includes mathematicians, accountants, political scientists, geographers and at least one marine scientist (as well as a smattering of economists). Together, our people bring a diverse set of perspectives and experiences to develop client solutions.
