Angus Draheim

Angus is an experienced transport professional with strong senior executive position in the heavy vehicle, freight and road sectors with 20 years’ experience in Commonwealth and State Agencies working on sector reform initiatives. 

He has a Masters in Engineering and has worked for the Commonwealth Government as a heavy vehicle safety and policy expert, and also in State Government, primarily in the road freight sector where he was heavily involved in the creation and operation of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.  Angus has led and been involved in many transport reforms and projects.

Selected project experience

  • Austroads Data Standard: Project managing the development of an Australasian Meta-Data Standard for Roads.  This standard will harmonise transport information across road agencies in Australia and New Zealand. Angus’ role is to ensure delivery of a national data standard, an impact statement for key road agencies, a business case for implementation of the standard, as well an implementation strategy. 
  • National Heavy Vehicle Regulator: National Regulatory Body established to manage regulatory administration of heavy vehicles on a national basis.  Led the national project implement NHVR including the set of harmonised heavy vehicle laws and new national regulator to administer laws and regulation. 
  • COAG Road Reform Plan: Delivered feasibility report on technology options for national truck charging and monitoring system. This included option development, oversight of the technical model development, policy and regulatory assessment and the development of benefits planning. Developed the strategy and documentation for the industry consultation and managed integration with economic modelling and policy streams. 
  • Queensland Road Freight Strategy: Delivered road freight strategy as part of Queensland freight strategy.  Reviewed existing state road freight policies, and analysed alignment with complimentary transport modes.  This engagement involved extensive consultation with stakeholders across Queensland. ​
